We are all victims of procrastinating, some more than others and simply find it a challenge to overcome it. There can be times we use this as a form of escape from a sense of reality, which we may all need from time to time. However, it can also lead to a lack in efficiency and productivity which is not ideal. Here we will focus on how to stop procrastinating and provide you with 6 ways to use from today.

What is procrastination?

Procrastination: the act of proactively delaying the completion of a task until the very last minute or even past a given deadline since other activities have taken a false priority.

We can uncover various different traits about ourselves once we realise, we are procrastinating. Yet, the first hurdle is recognising this is even taking place. A quick sense check to assess whether the given task is on track for completion can aid our procrastination status.

Procrastinating is not a direct sign of poor willpower or focus. It is a chance to re-evaluate the current circumstances we are in. Everything we do has a reason!

Why do we procrastinate?

The reasons why we procrastinate are multifactorial and not a one size fits all, however, a few reasons include, lacking motivation, a decline in self-control, looking for instant gratification and a complete loss of interest.

There are many other reasons and it all depends on our personal circumstances.

Once we are able to identify the root cause(s), we can progress to building solutions to overcome any form of procrastination. Even the fact of regularly scrolling through social media accounts to this – isn’t this quite relatable?
