Unlock Today: What to Do When Journaling Isn’t Working Out for You Constantly

04/01/2022 by The Dynamic Mind

Unlock Today: What to Do When Journaling Isn’t Working Out for You Constantly | The Dynamic Mind

Each time a new year turns we all sink into the feeling that we must bring ourselves to take on a new challenge. Why don’t we flip this on its head and give a task which we may have tried before but has not worked out another go? For many, this includes journaling, so here we will touch on what to do when journaling isn’t working out for you and tap into the tips to make any necessary changes.

Why journaling is not working

First, we need to uncover the reasons why journaling might not be working out. Yes, you guessed it right, it is multifactorial. Whether we are constantly struggling to start journaling or hitting a brick wall in continuing, we need to first be aware of our current position. Rest assured, whichever stage you are at, this is okay – you have won the first battle of accepting and reflecting on yourself.

Mental barrier: this element can impact many aspects of our lives, not only with journaling but every other task from those which are simple to complex. We might experience a complete block and cannot shift it. Our focus is hindered and we may even perceive the task as a ‘chore’, hence this reduces our motivation.

Lack of achievement: we might belittle the task of journaling since there is no immediate sense of achievement. Fulfilment from journaling follows a compounding effect, the process takes time but there is a reward with continuous efforts.

Disturbed environment: the space in which we conduct activities impacts our output and journaling is no different. If we have lots of items, clutter and a loud setting, this will negatively influence how we journal. A clear space provides us with a clear mind.

No motivation: picking ourselves up when we cannot get started or reach a roadblock is challenging. We might even be simply bored, which is also plausible – journaling might just not be for you, but giving it a go is better than dismissing it.

Tips to make journaling work for you

Now we have discussed the various different reasons as to why we may not be able to get in the rhythm of journaling, let us focus our attention on tips to make it work for you.

Protected time: if we block out specific time in our day dedicated to journaling, we are more likely to commit and complete the activity. It does not matter whether this is at the very beginning of the day or at the end. The key is that we are staying consistent, hence the art of journaling is now built within our routine.

How long should I spend journaling? There is no right or wrong answer, a suitable amount of time to document everything you wish is the aim. Start with 5 minutes and see how you get on.

Support network: here at The Dynamic Mind, we are strong believers in having a support network to keep us all grounded, focused and protected. Equally a support network can be useful with our journaling journey as this provides us with the opportunity to be held accountable.

Focus on yourself: we should just be writing for ourselves, and for no one else to read. This keeps it more personal and allows us to be freer in text.

Structure to journaling: we should aim to be direct with how we are journaling as this will help focus our mind. For example, write down the small wins and challenges experienced. Finding a method that suits us provides us with a great confidence pump.

To help you continue feeling confident, download our confidence checklist.

Benefits of journaling

With all the barriers to getting started or continuing with journaling, there must be benefits associated, surely?

Of course, here are some of the great benefits of journaling:

  • Connecting with ourselves
  • Appreciating all things which are happening to us
  • Sense of gratitude
  • Clear frame of mind
  • Feeling inspired to continue achieving
  • Gaining self-confidence
  • Being held accountable for previous actions

Life Hack: The Importance of Being Happy With Yourself Every Day | The Dynamic Mind

Don’t we all want happiness? Happiness is the single most important element to keep our mental state of being on track, nevertheless, we can often find it a struggle to discover or even maintain this element. We will uncover the importance of being happy with yourself every day.

What is happiness?

It is only right if we start from the very beginning and really understand what being happy is and even what it means. It generally comes in all shapes and shapes – most certainly unique to ourselves. For example, one person might find a simple hug from a friend/ family member a happy moment and another may find happiness from planting their favourite summer flower. There is no right or wrong as it all means something different to each one of us.

Generally, being happy relates to an emotional state of positive wellbeing providing a sense of satisfaction by a particular stimulus.

It should be quite simple to identify whether we are happy, as this impacts the energy we give off when engaging with others and how we assess situations.

Time for self-reflection: Have you ever questioned your own happiness? Or do you let situations just pass and carry on?

How to be happy with yourself

Being happy with yourself is an act of self-investing, to assist, try to implement the following methods.

Passion: allocate specific time to do things that you love and are passionate about. Try to incorporate this within your career to maximise your time and personal fulfilment.

Practice gratitude: being grateful for the opportunities that you have and are able to take hold of provides a sense of humbling. In turn, you will begin to feel happy with yourself.

Journal: this goes hand in hand with practising gratitude as we can document all the positive things that are occurring which is a mood booster.

Don’t avoid negativity: neglecting negativity is not necessarily simple to avoid as these environments are part of our day to day lives. We just need to learn how to handle the situation appropriately.

Socialise: make time to socialise with positive mindset individuals, after all, we are social beings.

Exercise: have protected time for yourself to enjoy an activity, relieve stress, either be alone or around others who have a similar mindset – physical & mental benefit.

Smile: even if things are not going our way, just smile. This positive energy will spread happiness to others which in turn will be returned to you.

Get organised: plan the week ahead. There is great satisfaction in knowing where we are heading and this adds to being happy with ourselves.

Positive affirmations: Focus on happiness quotes and positive affirmations to get you in the right frame of mind is very important. Use our Mindfulness Monday campaign on Instagram: @thedynamicmind

Results of being happy

Taking the steps to be happy with yourself has multiple results and positive benefits. Being happy with ourselves has a great impact on our lives both in a personal and professional setting as it enables us to have a clearer mind. This allows us to make decisions efficiently and improves our productivity. With a clear mind, we have allowed our stress levels to decrease overall as we simply do not have space and time for it.

Protecting our mental state of wellbeing and investing in ourselves to ensure we a happy also draws positive and strong-minded individuals to be part of our network. Hence, there is nothing but happiness and growth shared.

Our creativity is increased as we become more open-minded and able to engage in constructive discussions.

Barriers to being happy

Here we will highlight some barriers that you may experience which stop you from being happy with yourself. Nevertheless, we can take the steps above and make it work.

Examples include not practising gratitude if we cannot identify the positives in life and staying within our comfort zones. Initially, this is uncomfortable, but once we have completed the activity, there is a sense of accomplishment adding to a happy state of mind.

Additionally, having an energy-draining network and those who have a pessimistic outlook on life can dampen any chance of finding happiness. With this, make sure not to have an unrealistic expectation of reality.

Steps to continue being happy with yourself

Congratulations! You have discovered the importance of being happy with yourself, the various activities you can implement today to support this and are now aware of possible barriers.

Why not take this a step further and provide happiness to others around you? This can even start with a smile or sharing a quote / positive affirmation. To help you get started, visit our Instagram: @thedynamicmind

4 Simple Ways on How to Become a More Positive Person Today - The Dynamic Mind

There can be nothing more important than having a positive mindset as this singlehandedly changes every aspect of your but others around you lives. It influences our decision making, our aura and energy. With this, follow our simple ways on how to become a more positive person today.

1.   Focus on good things

We must effectively utilise our energy and draw attention towards the silver lining throughout each activity/ experience. This might seem a bit of a challenge if things are not going as planned, however choosing to focus on the good things, instils positivity both within us and others around us.

Another great reminder of the fact to celebrate the small wins!

An example which we can relate to in a professional setting: current project lead cannot occupy this position and we have to take over for the first time, unexpectedly. This may be daunting, nonetheless, there is an opportunity to grow and develop, which is exciting and drives greater positivity.

A personal setting example: a friend cancels a catch-up coffee which was planned a while ago, which is upsetting at first glance, however, we now have free time available to dedicate towards self-care.

2.   Use positive affirmations

To become a more positive person, the use of positive affirmations on a regular basis is incredibly powerful. It allows us to build a positive frame of mind and outlook towards life in general. Utilise our Mindfulness Monday campaign on Instagram to start day and week with the right intention:@thedynamicmind

Benefits of using positive affirmations:

  • Rise in confidence
  • Stronger mindset
  • Improved productivity
  • Become more motivated
  • New found self-belief
  • Happy emotional state and wellbeing
  • Driven to achieve goals set

3.   Keep a gratitude journal

The use of a gratitude journal allows us to remind ourselves of how fortunate we are of all the opportunities presented in front of us and aims to provide us with a positive outlook on the future ahead. This is a chance to document our thoughts, ideas and success during a specific protected time to focus on ourselves. Give this a try and feel the positive person within you starting to grow!

A time for self-reflection gives us the moment to become a more positive person today for now and tomorrow.

Practicing gratitude allows us to become more resilient during tasks and showing gratitude towards others, even though a simple, thank you is highly rewarding. This internal self-rewarding feeling drives us to become a more positive person.

Keeping a gratitude journal can be as simple as using the notes application within our mobile phones or using a notepad and pen.

4.   Redirect negativity

The first step to acting on redirecting negativity is accepting that it is occurring, being aware is half the battle to become a more positive person. The other is changing the negativity and focusing on the possibilities, adjust the manner in which dialogue is expressed.

Simply, do not allow negative comments to form part of any conversation – block them out and express your concerns with others.

Take it a step further and avoid negative scenario planning and aim to be the centre of positivity. As a result, we will become a more positive person inwards and out.

5 Powerful Tips on How to Develop a Personal Growth Mindset Instantly - The Dynamic Mind

Mindset is everything. Developing a personal growth mindset can be made simple only when the correct tips are implemented. This will help you reach your desired goals effectively, so look no further and take note of our 5 powerful tips on how to develop a personal growth mindset instantly.

1.   Actioning areas of development

To kickstart this journey to develop a personal growth mindset, we must make sure to document all challenges that we encounter in our personal and professional life. To overcome these elements, it is vital to pick up to three different activities that we can do to upskill ourselves.

Additionally, to keep committed and motivated, set out a structured plan. Do not be afraid of asking others for their advice and take any opportunity to learn from leaders.

This includes an element of stepping out of our comfort zone – which we strongly encourage here at The Dynamic Mind.

2.   Demonstrate empathy

Developing the attribute of empathy allows us to build trust and highlights our emotional intelligence when handling any situation. When we take the time to effectively listen and connect with others, we develop a deeper connection whilst having meaningful conversations. This results in a positive working relationship when conducted in a professional setting.

Next time we are listening to our colleague or friend or family member, stay present and avoid ‘multitasking’; truly listen to each word. You will notice a difference in how the conversation transforms. Congratulations! You are taking the right steps in building rapport and demonstrating empathy.

Another simple method is to ask questions and demonstrate engagement during conversations. From this, it highlights we have taken an interest that will positively pay dividends when we are sharing our story and/ or require assistance to develop ourselves.

3.   Remain interested in the process rather than the outcome

During a project, it is easy to be heavily outcome-driven, as the majority of the time we are assessed on the success rather than each step taken to reach the end goal. However, for us to develop a personal growth mindset (whilst the outcome is important), we must shift our focus on continuously developing during the process and with this, we can positively guide the desired outcome.

“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.” – Walt Disney

At the Dynamic Mind, we regularly highlight the importance of journaling and documenting our journey, and here is another great example to do exactly that. Take note of each challenge and success through the process.

Ask yourself, is the end result more valuable than the experience? You can only do everything in your power to influence success in the outcome, so do exactly that and be proactive.

4.   Open to new challenges

It is vital to have an open mind to new challenges to develop a personal growth mindset instantly. Take on each activity with confidence, and do not be afraid to ‘fail’, as we may uncover new skills and elements which we did not anticipate advancing in. This may even take us outside of our comfort zone which is a daunting yet an exciting element.

Having an open mind increases our mental strength and resilience which are fundamental characteristics of our growth mindset.

Become more optimistic with challenges through following our Mindfulness Monday campaign on Instagram: @thedynamicmind.

5.   Actively seek feedback

Take every opportunity that is possible and within reach to actively seek feedback from a range of colleagues, friends and family members to gain a 360-view. There is great importance in receiving feedback as this allows us to highlight areas of development and being aware of this is imperative for nurturing a personal growth mindset.

Once you have been provided with feedback, this is the time to be proactive once again and build a plan as this will contribute to our personal growth.

Confidence here is important – do not be nervous to ask for feedback because you may not want to know the outcome. Take an open-mind approach and accept the feedback within reason. This also demonstrates to others that we take our personal growth seriously.

Summary: 5 powerful tips on how to develop a personal growth mindset instantly

We have highlighted 5 powerful tips for you to implement to develop a personal growth mindset. With a plan and a positive support network, we all can instantly make an impact both in our personal and professional journeys.

Having a personal growth mindset is a catalyst to success.

We would love to hear if you have any other tips to develop a personal growth mindset – drop us a comment below!
