Are you exhausted of feeling exhausted?
Quite possibly one of the most underrated activities for self-care, setting yourself up for a positive day and overall improving your quality of life – a good night’s sleep. This can be difficult as many factors can get in the way, including, food, alcohol, screen time or room temperature. However, with a few lifestyle adjustments, this can be easily corrected.
The time we spend sleeping should not be viewed as an unproductive use of time. This is our protected period to recharge in order to propel our productivity and efficiency. With this, we are more likely to complete tasks to a higher standard and enjoy each moment which ultimately improves the quality of life we live.
Why not try and monitor your sleep and assess whether you are getting the recommended 7 – 8 hours that your body requires. This can also be incorporated into your daily journaling.
If you are struggling, reflect on the reasons as to why this could be occurring. Only from here will you be able to make the required changes. Small modifications have a great impact to improve your quality of life.

3. Invest in your self-care
Do not compromise here – invest in your self-care at all costs!
Build a routine that suits your lifestyle. This is unique to us all and what is involved in our own self-care is completely tailored. Importantly, do not feel guilty for allocating specific time to focus on self-care, even if this means postponing non-essential tasks, as this time is spent doing things you enjoy and are required. Even if this includes meeting friends – positive people around you will understand since they appreciate the importance of investing in your self-care to improve your quality of life.
Focus on how you are feeling, before and after investing in your self-care; more often than not we feel more cheerful, refreshed and generally happy as a result. This positive energy can be passed onto others which is truly rewarding.
A few activities to help with your self-care include: de-cluttering your mind and spending time in nature, taking a power nap and even focusing on your breathing.
4. Make time for things you enjoy
Whilst it is not uncommon, many of us struggle to make time for things we enjoy, despite it being incredibly important in maintaining an overall healthy state of mind. This is because it will impact both our personal and professional lives. Having strong time management forms a great pillar in ensuring we can make time for the things we enjoy.
To assist with this, identify if any activities can be outsourced to free up your personal time, for example, cleaning, childcare, gardening etc. This may not be possible for all; alternatively, assess if a routine can be set in place for mandatory tasks to help make time for things you enjoy. Additionally, remove any distractions and elements which cause you to procrastinate, hence becoming more efficient with your time and allowing you to improve your quality of life.
Start small if you initially find it a challenge to include the activity within your calendar. Even starting with 15 – 20 minutes on a regular basis is perfectly okay. As we all learn to adjust our time by adding additional activities, this will become a habit. Since this activity is one you enjoy, it directly improves your quality of life.
